'New Moon' Project!
We are delighted to announce that Adverse Camber has secured funding from Youth Music to work with young people to create new music inspired by the Moon!
Music of the Moon is a brand new project that has sprung out of Stars and Stories and will run alongside and enhance the Heritage Lottery Funded, Moon Stories project, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing by collecting and making new work from Derbyshire people’s memories of that momentous event.
Music of the Moon has been funded by Youth Music and will be delivered in partnership with Baby People, with strong connections to Derbyshire Virtual School’s World of Work (WOW) programme. Running throughout the year, we’ll focus on creating music and performance inspired by the connections between constellations, stories, memories and music.
The recorded memories and other materials gathered for Moon Stories will feed into Music of the Moon, the young musicians may even sample and use moments of oral history and other materials in their new compositions!
Working with professional musicians, a storyteller and an astronomer, young people will create their own songs, soundtracks and stories that will culminate in a series of compelling performances for local primary schools as well as for Wirksworth Festival 2020.
Like Moon Stories, this project has been driven by a core team of young people, developing and suggesting ideas to influence what takes place. By nurturing individual voices and stimulating engagement, this project gives children and young people in care and care leavers experiences of taking their artistic idea from conception to production, an invaluable confidence-boosting stepping stone for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the arts.
