Gearing up for Tapton Lock! An update on Our Stories, Our Places, Our Futures

Every Monday evening throughout May and June we have been running storytelling workshops for young people, part of Our Stories, Our Places, Our Futures, a partnership project with Junction Arts. Artists and storytellers Lewis Doherty, Aoife O’Connor, Beccy Dye and Maria Whatton have been working with the group to explore the different ways stories are created and told with the aim to make work that will be showcased at the Tapton Lock Festival. So far participants have taken part in characterisation workshops, created a timeline of their imagined lives, generated stories using a special card game. Together we're discovering there are so many ways to construct an engaging story and getting closer to creating a piece of work for the Tapton Lock Festival on Sat 10 September.

Sessions continue through July followed by a special Story Making week for both existing participants and newcomers, from the 15th – 19th August at Bolsover Castle. It's free to attend with lunch provided and we can also assist with travel costs. For anyone who’s interested, please email jane@junctionarts.org for more information.

Later in July we’re looking forward to visiting Doe Lea Youth Group to run a couple of sessions on Wednesday evenings. Young people will look at storytelling through the medium of podcasts, a specialism of Beccy Dye’s!
