Fine artist, Carol Harries-Wood's response to the archive
We asked three artists to respond to the Moments in Time archive, Fine Artist, Carol Harries-Wood, Storyteller, Maria Whatton and Filmmaker, Adam Robertson.
Carol Harries-Wood is a mixed media artist living in Derbyshire and is also a Creative Mentor working with the Derbyshire Virtual School. Carol is interested in aspects of memory within the domestic sphere and enjoys using materials that evoke emotional responses from the viewer.
For the Moments in Time project, Carol created a large scale artwork on a canvas made out of 42 carefully stitched together face masks, the kind that have become synonymous with the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this short film you will hear how Carol was inspired by the young people’s work and voices to make her evocative work.
Carol’s artwork went on a tour of Derbyshire libraries from December 2021 – March 2022 and following that, the piece went into the archive at the Derbyshire Record Office to take its place alongside the rest of the collection.
Here are some photographs of the work in progress, have a scroll through the gallery.
