Alex Dunlop

Alex Dunlop is a stand-up comedian, writer, and facilitator from Bradford. With over seven years of experience, he has performed over 500 gigs across the UK. He has hosted hundreds of shows, mainly for Leeds Comedy Project and LDS Comedy, which he founded to platform diverse voices in stand-up. His sharp improvisation and quick wit make him a distinctive presence on the UK comedy circuit.

Beyond stand-up, Alex has an extensive background in theatre and facilitation. He has led comedy and drama workshops for Leeds Playhouse, Sheffield Theatres, University of Manchester and Imperial College London. His work often explores themes of identity, belonging, and resilience, using storytelling and comedy to challenge perceptions and engage audiences in fresh and unexpected ways. Currently, Alex is developing Black Sheep, a solo comedy/theatre show exploring mental health in young Black men.

What I want to achieve through mentoring:

I want to refine my storytelling craft, moving beyond conventional stand-up to develop richer, more layered narratives. I’m interested in learning how to structure long-form performances that integrate humour with personal storytelling and social themes. With Black Sheep in development, I want to produce a fully realised theatrical experience that resonates beyond the comedy circuit. I want to build the skills and confidence to take my work to new audiences, from theatre spaces to the festival circuit, and elevate my practice as both a performer and writer.
